The Essex Golf Partnership works closely with the The Golf Foundation to provide a structured approach and support for schools and golf clubs to work together.
The Golf Foundation is a charity committed to the sporting and social development of young people through golf regardless of their background or circumstances.
The Golf Foundation delivers its operational activity through a single programme called Golf Roots which includes community activity in schools and clubs as well as special projects that target inner city and urban areas.
The Golf Foundation supports school and school/club link activity and works with local schools sports partnerships to assist in this delivery.
The very popular Tri-Golf in primary schools and Golf Xtreme in secondary schools has lead the way to introduce golf to school children, and often culminates in local schools competing in Tri-Golf and Golf Xtreme festivals at the end of the summer term.
The Junior Golf Passport is structured learning programme which is designed to facilitate a smooth transition from school-based activity to club-based programmes. Many clubs around the county work with the Passport as their main coaching programme for juniors.
The Golf Foundation provides support to clubs and facilities keen to undertake out-reach work and then welcome new participants to their venue. The approved Golf Roots Centres are eligible to apply for grant-aid and the Golf Foundation's team of Regional Development Officers is available to provide advice on how to link with school and community groups.
Teachers, club volunteers and others are able to access training workshops which provide ideas about how to work effectively with children and young people. Those attending are provided with a variety of ideas that can be used when delivering a junior golf programme.
